5 Steps To Overcoming A Lack Of Action
At times in life you have all the knowledge of what to do, at least the next step forward. Perhaps even the motivation, but what you lack is action. A mentor of mine always says ''Success Lies in your daily habits.''
A habit can be positive or negative. But a habit will help you overcome procrastination. Procrastination is just unreasonable perfectionism. Many people won't even start if they can't do it perfectly. But if you can shift your goal from perfectionism to progress, you'll find you have a more empowering mindset for taking action.
So here are 5 tips for helping you take action starting TODAY!
1: Commitment -- Make a commitment to take action and make progress on any particular thing in your life which will help move you from where you are to where you want to be.
2: Decision -- This is deciding what action to take. What you are moving toward. And most importantly, Why is this important to you? Jim Rohn always says, ''If the promise is strong enough, the price is no object.''
3: Chunk it down -- Break the goal or action into smaller steps or stages. Write it down in all the smaller stages or steps so you can clearly see it. You could even map it on a large sheet of paper. Colour or mark each step as you achieve it, so you can see your own progress and be motivated daily by it.
4: Set a Timer -- Some tasks just seem too overwhelming or large to even start. But how often have you been surprised at how quickly some tasks can be done once you just get stuck into it. Well, why not set a timer for 15 minutes, and just do that. After 15 minutes, congratulate yourself for starting. You can do this a couple of times a day. Occasionally, just starting is all it takes. Once you're in the zone, you can keep going. Either way is fine. Just choose one and do it. You'll be proud you did.
5: Daily Action - This speaks for itself. Just do something, everyday, to move you toward your goal. Preferably do what will make the most difference. This will have you unstuck and moving forward in no time. Just 15 minutes, once or twice a day. Cos remember, success lies in your daily habits.
So there you have my 5 tips for getting unstuck and taking action. Celebrate even your small successes. Be proud of taking action. Even the mistakes are correctable once you're in motion. You can't steer a car til you're in motion, and in life, similarly, you need to take action and make some mistakes to make progress.
Do what you can. Do the best you can. Just do something!
